I have the CD for the game along with the product key, but my computer doesn't have a CD drive. I know the game works on my computer because I was running a cracked version that worked fine. However, I want to update to have all the patches, so I converted my CD to a thumb drive to install. The installation goes fine, but when I start the game for the first time it gives me this error before I even have the chance to put in my product key.
I've looked through forums and tried several solutions, but nothing works.I tried to download the game through origin, but I ran into a similar problem. Except the game would just crash on start up.
So I ended up getting a refund. Any help would be much appreciated!. It's no more useless than your useless description of the problem. It wasn't meant to help you. Though it's not useles, because I can guarantee you this doesn't happen on other operating systems and it's not hard to switch to them.
It was meant to poke fun at the fact that you are playing Spore on Mac. Also, no need to take it out on me, I have read the other comments and they are just about as useless as mine. The simple fact is no one understands your problem because no one is a Mac user. With a community as small as this one, the only answers to your problem you will find are many years old.All of the problems similar to you end up being solved by turning off the Time Machine or by not updating Spore before launching it. Assuming you tried out 'everything' and it's still not working, then the problem is simple. You are trying to play a 10 year old unsupported game on an operating system that barely anyone uses anymore.Now I will tell you something that actually works.

You said that you pirated the game and it worked fine, and the only reason you care is to have all the patches, right? Then why don't you pirate the patches too? They are relatively easy to find and manually install. Also using the official patches should work, but just in case you can't google them yourself:. If you can't install the patches manually after you have a working crack version of Spore, either you are doing it wrong or the problem resides in Mac again, in which case no one can help you other than getting a different operating system. And I say that because I know what I'm talking about, installing the patches after you have a working pirated version of Spore isn't hard and it doesn't ruin your crack. I have no idea what you have been doing.But since I'm so bad at 'tech support' (since that's totally what i've been doing lol), then enjoy. I don't care about Windows, I'm a Linux user. But I recognize that Windows is objectively better than Linux when it comes to third party software, because most of it is built for Windows, such as videogames or editing software. Linux has to make its own tools.
And yes, to each his own, but if you're having problems with Mac then just change OS. I say the same thing when someone is trying to code in Windows and they can't get it to work even though they did everything right; Windows is not completely reliable. And especially not today. So I just tell them to install Linux and dualboot it with Windows, because Linux can do what Windows can't and Windows can do what wasn't built for Linux. I don't see any positives for Mac today, you say you can run it because it's more efficient than Windows, but Linux is even more efficient.
And then you compare it to Linux, because it can run more programs than Linux, but almost all of them were originally built for Windows, and Windows can run more programs than Mac. There are smarter ways to run some programs for Windows more efficiently than changing the whole operation system to Mac.In short, if you are having trouble with an operating system, just switch. It's not hard to dual boot.

And certainly don't game on Mac. The support for mac is almost as bad as support for Linux, except since Linux is open source people can fix the problems themselves and not wait for a company to fix their cursed OS.
